Aachen 1643 ducat Fr-8
This specimen was lot 6040 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €2,200 (about US$2,843 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"AACHEN, STADT, Dukat 1643, mit Titel Ferdinands III. GOLD. RR Fast sehr schön. (city of Aachen, ducat of 1643, struck in the name of Ferdinand III. Very rare, about very fine.)"
The issues of this free city are sporadic and most are rare, altho there is an extensive series of copper four heller (KM 31, 52) and twelve heller (KM 51) from the eighteenth century which are fairly common. This is one of the few gold issues and was struck 1641, 1643 and 1645.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3,42 g.
