This specimen is one of a type struck for Belize 1974-80 and 1989-93, likely at London or Ottawa. Simultaneous with this circulation issue, the Franklin Mint was striking proofs of an entirely different design featuring the frigate bird. These were packaged in sets with the other denominations and mass-marketed to collectors in the United States, making them more familiar than the regular issue, which is rather drab.
Recorded mintage: unknown but common.
Specification: 9.07 g, copper-nickel, 27.7 mm diameter, reeded edge.
Catalog reference: KM 37.
