Belize 1983 cent

formerly in the Mountain Groan Collection

This specimen is one of a type struck for Belize 1976-2000, likely at London or Ottawa. Simultaneous with this circulation issue, the Franklin Mint was striking proofs of an entirely different design featuring the swallow-tailed kite. These were packaged in sets with the other denominations and mass-marketed to collectors in the United States, making them more familiar than the regular issue, which is rather drab.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 0.80 g, aluminum, 19.5 mm diameter, plain edge.
