Sedwick 39-0755r.jpg

This specimen was lot 755 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 39 (Winter Park, FL, May 2026), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, cob 1 real, 1735/4 N, unique(?), ex-Ugaz. Off-center cross, bold full waves and right-hand pillar with equally bold date exhibiting a very clear 5/4, a known overdate for ½, 4, and 8 reales but this is the first 1 real we have seen or heard of, unevenly toned VF with some peripheral flatness. Pedigreed to the Jorge Ugaz Collection." This type was struck 1729-47 for the Bourbon king Philip V. Assayer Negron y Colmenares ("N") stamped his coins 1728-40. In 1728, the cobs were debased from 0.931 fine to 0.917 fine silver. In 1732, the Mexico City mint began its transition to milled coinage, a process Lima would not undertake until 1751.
