Germany 1928-G pfennig

from Stack's Bowers October 2020 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71590

This specimen was lot 71590 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it sold for $192. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GERMANY. Weimar Republic. Pfennig, 1928-G. Karlsruhe Mint. PCGS PROOF-66 Red Brown Gold Shield. The only example of the date and mint in the PCGS census, this tremendous proof Gem presents a rather vibrant palette comprised of electrified magenta and cobalt." This type was struck 1924-36 and most dates, including this one, are common. Only the proofs are scarce.
