SB1021-71122r.jpg

This specimen was lot 71122 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $75. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 1/2 Penny, 1913. London Mint. George V. NGC MS-65 Red Brown. This handsome looking Gem offers a pleasing appearance with smooth surfaces and bold devices offering good eye appeal." This half penny was introduced on the accession of George V in 1911 and retained the Britannia reverse first used in 1860. Persistent striking problems caused modifications to the bust in 1925 and again in 1928 tho all the circulating denominations were similarly afflicted. This is a common date.

Recorded mintage: 17,476,000.

Specification: 5.40 g, bronze, 25.5 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: S-4056; KM-809.
