Great Britain 1913-B dollar
This specimen was lot 47461 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Trade Dollar, 1913-B. Bombay Mint. George V. PCGS AU-58." This silver dollar was struck during the reign of George V, king of Britain 1910-36. The type was struck 1895-1935 for use in "Oriental trade," which would include India, Indochina, the East Indies and China proper. This coin could easily be filed under India as most (including this one) were struck in India, either at the Bombay or Calcutta mints. The majority were struck 1895-1904, 1907-13 and 1925-34. The coin does not bear a portrait of the sovereign nor is marked with the country of origin tho the figure of Britannia makes it clear. The SCWC reports a 1913/2 overdate but awards it no premium.
Recorded mintage: 1,567,000 plus proofs, a better date.
Specification: 26.96 g, 0.900 fine silver, .780 troy oz ASW, 39 mm diameter, designed by G. W. DeSaulles.
