from the Stack's Bowers 2024 ANA sale, lot 42009

This specimen was lot 42009 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $2,160. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. Taler, 1828-A. Vienna Mint. Franz I. NGC MS-65. The finest of just six seen in the NGC census, this staggering Gem provides deep gray surfaces with some enchanting hints of olive and delightful brilliance throughout." This type was struck 1824-30 at Vienna ("A"), Kremnitz ("B"), Prague ("C"), Nagybanya ("G") and Karlsburg ("E") but is not rare. Thalers were struck to this weight standard until 1852.
