Peru 1832-Cuz VoArSh 8 escudos
This specimen was lot 25454 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $1,645. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 8 Escudos 1832-VoArSh Cuzco, AU58 NGC, boldly struck features with no flan problems and virtually full mint luster, an exceptionally nice example of this early Republic 8 Escudos." This type was struck at Cuzco 1826-45 and at Lima 1826-40 and 1850-55. This is one of the more available dates but we have no explanation for the bizarre assayers' initials which appear this year only.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .760 troy oz AGW.
Catalog reference: Fr-63, KM 148.2.
