This coin was minted in Cuzco, Peru, in 1831. This specimen was lot 3539 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $9,775. The catalog description[1] noted, "1831 G 8 escudos. Cuzco mint. MS-63 (NGC). Types as above. Rich yellow gold. Lustrous, frosty devices and deeply reflective fields. Essentially pristine but for the most trivial signs of handling, close to gem quality and an exceptional coin. From the John H. Clapp Collection; Clapp estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., 1942."

This type was struck at Cuzco 1826-45 and at Lima 1826-40 and 1850-55. This is one of the more available dates.
