Sincona sale 47, lot 2933

This specimen was lot 2933 in Sincona sale 47 (Zurich, May 2018), where it sold for 1,300 CHF (about US$1,560 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND, Schwyz, 4 Batzen 1811. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Gutes vorzüglich. (canton of Schwyz, four batzen of 1811. Rare in this condition, Good extremely fine.)"

This type is listed for 1810-11 from the canton of Schwyz. After being temporarily unified under Napoleon's Helvetic Republic, the cantons went their separate ways after the Congress of Vienna and issued a torrent of low value coins. Not until 1850 would a unified confederation mint her own coins and terminate the local issues.

Reported Mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 4.73 g.

Catalog reference: D.T. 81b, HMZ 2-807b, KM 58.
