Heritage sale 3042, lot 34102
New Zealand H3042-34102o.jpg

This specimen was lot 34102 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $399.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Elizabeth II Proof 50 Cents 1994 PR68 Ultra Cameo NGC. HMS Endeavor issue. Bi-metallic striking with gold center and .375 white gold ring." The HMS Endeavour, Captain Cook's ship of exploration, was featured on the New Zealand fifty cent coin when it was introduced in 1967. This issue seems to be New Zealand's only flirtation with bimetallic coinage.

Recorded mintage: 52,500 in base metal (KM 90) plus 10,000 in silver(?) (KM 90a) plus 500 in gold (KM 90b, shown here).

Specification: bimetallic, 32 mm diameter. The SCWC does not give the specifications of the three varieties.

Catalog reference: KM 90b.
