This specimen was issued by India as part of the F.A.O. series. The Indian government became an enthusiastic supporter of the F.A.O. program and issued many F.A.O. coins in the decade following. This specimen is from the Bombay mint; the type was also issued from the Calcutta mint. In 1982, US$1 = 9.3 rupees; today (September 2023), US$1 = 83 rupees.

Recorded mintage: 28,720,000 plus 11,000 proofs plus 40,100,000 from Calcutta.

Specification: copper-nickel, 24 mm diameter.
