Saxe-Weimar 1677 2/3 thaler KM-105
This specimen was lot 1297 in Jean Elsen sale 149 (Brussels, December 2021), where it sold for €120 (about US$163 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, SAXE-WEIMAR, Johann Ernst (1662-1683), AR Gulden (2/3 Taler), 1677. D/ B. cuir. à d. R/ Ecu couronné. Très Beau. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Weimar, John Ernest, 1662-83, silver gulden or two-thirds thaler of 1677. Obverse: armored bust right; reverse: crowned arms. Very Fine.)"
This type was struck 1677-78 during the peak of the fad for gulden or two-thirds thalers. A similar type exists (KM 104) with the duke's bust in a circle.
