Steve Album sale 51, lot 958

This specimen was lot 958 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "SAXONY: Hans Georg II, 1657-1680, AR 2/3 thaler, Dresden, 1680, an attractive nearly mint state example, PCGS graded AU58, ex Almer H. Orr III Collection." This denomination was first struck in Saxony in 1675. This type was struck 1678-81 for elector John George II. Another gulden, KM 571, was struck 1680-91 for John George III.
