This specimen was lot 31133 in Heritage sale 3106 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $3,240. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Saxony. Johann George III "Death" Taler 1680 MS63 NGC, Dresden mint. One year type commemorating the death of Johann Georg II. The large planchet is the perfect canvas for the engraver to execute his talent. Winged Fame above with trumpet in each hand, Electors cap above two coat of arms with Saturn below / Sixteen lines of biographical data. Mirrored fields occasionally glint from behind the mottled cabinet toned fields. From the Cape Coral Collection, Part II." This death commemorative is scarce, verging on rare.
