France 1733L ecu rev DSLR.jpg

This coin is an écu aux branches d'olivier from the Bayonne mint. Bayonne mint issues are known for the entire span of the type (1726-40) but most dates are average (neither rare nor common) including this one. The Bayonne mint did not become really prolific until the late 1750's. The weak strike on a bad planchet is probably typical for this French mint near the border with Spain.

Recorded mintage: 447,005.

Specification: 29.49 g, 0.917 fine silver, 39-41 mm diameter, edge lettered DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM.

Catalog reference: KM 486.12, Dav-1330, Dr/4 № 819, Dr/2 № 579.
