Heritage sale 3010, lot 22370

This specimen was lot 22370 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $402.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Newfoundland. Victoria gold 2 Dollars 1881, sharp XF, good portrait for the grade." This type was struck for Newfoundland in limited numbers 1865-88 and is fairly available in circulated condition. This date is priced about 50% more than the common date (1888) in high grade.

Recorded mintage: 10,000.

Specification: 3.32 g, 0.917 fine gold, .098 troy oz AGW.
