Sincona sale 39, lot 3652

This specimen was lot 3652 in Sincona sale 39 (Zürich, May 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE. Kaiserreich. Napoleon I. 1804-1815 5 Francs 1806 B. Rouen. Sehr selten. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. PCGS XF 45. (empire of France, Napoleon I, 1804-15, five francs of 1806, Rouen mint. Very rare. Very fine-extremely fine.)"

Shown is a Napoleonic five francs struck at the Rouen mint (mint mark "B") in 1806. It is a very scarce date. The various designs of Napoleonic five francs form eight distinct types of which this is the fifth, struck 1806-07 with a complete set of this type comprising 23 date and mintmark combinations, some very rare.

Recorded mintage: 25,263.

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE, designed by Nicolas-Guy Brenet and Jean-Pierre Droz.
