Honduras 1904 25 centavos
This specimen was lot 1610 in Stephen Album sale 32 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2018), where it sold for $305.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "HONDURAS: Republic, AR 25 centavos, 1904, NGC graded AU58, ex Richard Stuart Collection. Designed by Swiss-born Jean-Baptiste Frener, who from 1860 was the director of the Casa de la Moneda in Guatemala." This type was struck in 1899-1913, accompanied by similar five, ten, fifty centavos and one pesos. As dies were extensively reused, innumerable varieties exist. This date is listed as rather scarce. In 1899, the denomination was reduced from .900 to 0.835 fine, leading to more varieties as many dies engraved "0.900" were simply overstamped "0.835."
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 6.25 g, 0.835 fine silver.
