Aureo y Calicó sale 448, lot 151

This specimen was lot 151 in Aureo y Calicó sale 448 (Barcelona, March 2025), where it sold for 480 € (about US$627 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "n/d. Carlos I. Naples. IBR. 1 tari. Obv.: ●:● - CAROLVS●V●ROM●IM●. Rev.: R●ARAGO●-●VTRIVS. Nice. Original luster. Rare. EBC [extremely fine]. Ex ANE 06/26/1987, no. 1103." This type was struck in many varieties of the laureate bust (KM MB74, MB78, MB79, MB80, MB81, MB82, MB83, MB84). One piastre made six tari. The Aragonese unified Naples and Sicily in 1442, only to have them separate again in 1458. Ferdinand of Aragon reconquered Naples for the Spanish crown in 1504 and Naples and Sicily together remained Spanish until the extinction of the Hapsburgs in 1700.
