Stack's Bowers 2021 NYINC sale, lot 23171

This specimen was lot 23171 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $456. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. Sovereign, 1900-P. Perth Mint. Victoria. PCGS AU-53 Gold Shield. A bright, well struck Sovereign with abundant peripheral luster. From the Collection of Richard Jewell." The Sydney and Melbourne mints issued large quantities of these "old head" sovereigns 1893-1901 with the Perth mint contributing starting in 1899. This is a common date.

Recorded mintage: 1,886,000.

Specification: 7.99 g, 0.917 fine gold, .2354 troy oz AGW.
