Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1702 24 mariengroschen
This specimen was lot 55498 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $100. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. 24 Mariengroschen, 1702. Zellerfeld Mint. Rudolph August & Anton Ulrich. Extremely Fine Details -- Scuffed. No inner circle on obverse, legend variation. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." Two different gulden were struck in 1702 for Rudolph August and Anton Ulrich: KM 559, shown here, struck 1685-1704, common; and KM 615, with a leaping stallion reverse, struck 1694-1705, scarce. The two brothers ruled together until Rudolph's death in 1704.
