Sincona sale 90, lot 1338
Rajputana in 1907, with Bharatpur in the extreme east next to Alwar

This specimen was lot 1338 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 5,500 CHF (about US$7,268 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"INDIEN Princely States, Bharatpur, Randhir Singh, 1220-1239 AH (1805-1823). Mohur 122(9) AH / Year 9 (1814-1815), Bharatpur. Struck in the name of Muhammad Akbar II. NGC MS66. Prachtexemplar. (India, princely states, kingdom of Bharatpur, Randhir Singh, AH 1220-1239, mohur of the year 9, Bharatpur mint, struck in the name of Muhammad Akbar II. Graded NGC MS-66, Cabinet piece.)"

Bharatpur was formed by several local Hindu chiefs in the mid 1700's and conceded British paramountcy in 1805. The rajah sided with the British during the Indian Mutiny of 1857 and received enhanced recognition. The state joined India in 1947 and is now part of Rajasthan. This type is listed for years 1, 3, 11, 14, 15, 28.
