Sincona sale 59, lot 2451

This specimen was lot 2451 in Sincona sale 59 (Zürich, October 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"OSMANISCHES REICH | Muhammad V., 1327-1336 H./1909-1918 AD, 100 Kurush 1327 H/Jahr 3., Selânîk/Saloniki. Tughra neben monogrammiertem reshâd über dem Regierungsjahr auf Lorbeerzweigen und Pfeilköchern, Münzstättenangabe und Datum des Regierungsanfangs. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Turkey, Muhammed V, 1909-18, gold hundred kurush of AH 1327, year 3, Salonika mint. Obverse: Tughra next to monogrammed reshâd over the regnal year on laurel branches and quivers, reverse: mintmark and accession date. Very fine-extremely fine.)"

This coin was minted to commemorate the sultan's visit to the town of Salonika. He made visits to several other towns, including Bursa, Adrianopole, Kosovo and Manastir, for which commemoratives were issued.
