Sincona sale 91, lot 3473

This specimen was lot 3473 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 120 CHF (about US$159 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Solothurn, Batzen 1623, Solothurn. Rückseitiges Münzzeichen gekreuzte Zainhaken. Sehr schön. Das Münzzeichen gekreuzte Zainhaken wird Münzmeister Joseph Roggenstil zugeschrieben. (Switzerland, canton of Solothurn, batzen of 1623, Solothurn mint, crossed hooks mintmark. Very fine. The mint mark of crossed hooks is attributed to mint master Joseph Roggenstil.)"

This type was struck 1622-24, 1630-32, 1637-38 and 1642 and is fairly available in worn condition. A klippe version (KM 12) exists.

Specification: 1.9 g, billon, 25 mm diameter, this specimen 2.79 g.
