Sincona sale 11, lot 996

This specimen was lot 996 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it sold for 3,750 CHF (about US$4,643 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Sachsen-Gotha-Altenburg, Herzogtum Friedrich I. 1675-1691. 1 ½ Taler o. J. Mit Wertpunze. Fast vorzüglich-vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg, Frederick I, 1675-91, 1½ thaler without date, with value counterstamp. Extremely fine.)"

This type is noted with and without a "1½" stamped into the reverse. It is not listed in Davenport. A rare double thaler (Dav-LS423) also exists.
