Sincona sale 89, lot 692

This specimen was lot 692 in Sincona sale 89 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 100 CHF (about US$132 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"RDR / ÖSTERREICH, Maximilian I. 1493-1519. Batzen 1518, St. Veit. Fast vorzüglich. Leichte Prägeschwäche. Exemplar der Auktion Münzen & Medaillen Deutschland GmbH 1, Stuttgart, September 1997, Los 1363. (Holy Roman Empire, Maximilian I, 1493-1519, batzen of 1518, St. Veit mint. About extremely fine, Slightly weakly struck.)"

This obscure minor, struck for Carinthia ("*MONETA·NOVA·CARINI*"), features St. Leopold on the obverse and does not mention the emperor. The batzen, or four kreuzer, was a denomination familiar in Switzerland but little used in Austria.
