Sincona sale 84, lot 359

This specimen was lot 359 in Sincona sale 84 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 150 CHF (about US$202 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSIA Russian Empire and Federation, 25 Kopecks - 50 Groszy 1842, Warsaw Mint, MW. St. George with mantle. Extremely fine. Edge flaw at edge."

This type was struck 1842-50 at Warsaw. Fifty groszy equaled twenty-five kopeks or 1-2/3 of a zloty. Russian coinage for Poland ended in 1850 altho the Warsaw mint continued to operate.

Recorded mintage: 26,518.

Specification: 5.18 g, 0.868 fine silver, 24.5 mm diameter, this specimen 5.28 g.
