Iran AH 1294 5000 dinars Fr-56
This specimen was lot 1028 in Sincona sale 85 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 2,400 CHF (about US$3,232 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"IRAN, Nasir al-Din Shah, 1264-1313 AH (1848-1896). 1/2 Toman 1294 AH (1877 AD), Tehran Mint. Lion & Sun type. Very rare, especially in this condition. NGC MS63. Earliest date of the 1/2 Toman issues. Magnificent condition. From the Kian collection, auction SINCONA 49, October 2018, lot 10. From the Turath collection, Spink & Son, London, October 1999, lot 367. Finest certified by NGC."
With the coming of the milled coinage, all of the branch mints were closed and all production was completed in Tehran. One thousand dinars made a kran and ten kran made a toman. This type is listed for AH 1294 only.
