This specimen was lot 1272 in Sedwick Auction 37 (Winter Park, FL, May 2025), where it sold for $4,500. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, gold bust 1 escudo, Charles III, 1768 JM, third bust, very rare, NGC AU 53, finest known in NGC census, ex-Almenara. Bold strike with choice purplish toning over luster (mostly on reverse), the obverse slightly off-center, hybrid bust unique to this mint showing early armor and drapery but older head, this very rare first date not listed in Calicó (also note that KM does not distinguish the traditional "rat nose" type from this new third bust). Pedigreed to the Almenara Collection." The "rat nose" bust of the king was used 1763-71 with the bust slightly modified in 1768 to make the king look older.

Recorded mintage: unknown.
