This specimen was lot 46058 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "SOUTH AFRICA. 2-1/2 Shillings, 1925. NGC Unc Details--Cleaned. A sharply struck coin with gray to almond color and a few old hairlines in the obverse fields, now obscured by the toning." The 2½ shillings or half crown was struck in South Africa 1923-60. It was 0.800 fine silver until 1930 and 0.500 fine thereafter. The later issue (KM 19.2) varies from this type by having "2½ SHILLINGS" in the reverse legend.
Recorded mintage: 460,000, a scarce date.
Specification: 14.14 g, 0.800 fine silver, 32.3 mm diameter.
