Westfriesland 1739 duit
This specimen was lot 45475 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $95. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. West Friesland. Duit, 1739. NGC MS-63 Brown. A nicely struck Duit with strong glossy luster and deep brown patina." Duits were struck in copper in Westfriesland intermittently during the eighteenth century until the destruction of the United Provinces in 1794. This type was struck 1716-17, 1720-23, 1727, 1739 with a turnip as a mintmark. The second specimen was lot 76040 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. West Friesland. Silver Duit, 1739. PCGS MS-62. An appealing issue in silver, with handsome luster and deep toning throughout."
