SB225-10085r.jpg

This specimen was lot 10085 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €336 (about US$350). The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Mark, 1607. Copenhagen Mint. Christian IV. NGC VF Details--Cleaned. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." This type was struck 1607 only and was worth one quarter speciedaler. Undated versions exist. Another mark was struck in Helsingør (Elsinore) (KM 31) with a larger bust of the king. Christian IV (r. 1588-1648) had a long but only moderately successful reign. His war with Sweden and his intervention in the Thirty Years War were costly and brought little gain.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.18 g, 0.888 fine silver, 30 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-33.2; Hede-92B; Sieg-65.2; Schou-5; Bruun-4722.
