Great Britain 1750 6 pence
This specimen was lot 32984 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it sold for $372. The catalog description[1] noted, "George II 6 Pence 1750 MS63 PCGS. Highly choice, pearl-white luster nestling comfortable amidst flow lines between the legends and rims, and a minor die crack through the 5 of the date. From the Lake County Collection." This type is listed for 1746, 1750-51 and 1757-58 and is common in worn condition. The mint did not produce near enough small change for the industrial boom of the eighteenth century, leading to a proliferation of private tokens. The situation would not be rectified until the reform of 1817.
