This specimen was lot 37117 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $750. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 1/2 Penny, 1750. London Mint. George II. NGC MS-64 Brown." This type is listed for 1746-54 and is fairly common in worn condition. The previous type (KM 579.1) of 1740-45 had the king's name spelled "GEORGIUS". The mint did not produce near enough small change for the industrial boom of the eighteenth century, leading to a proliferation of private tokens. The situation would not be rectified until the reform of 1817.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 9.86 g, copper, 28 mm diameter, plain edge.
Catalog reference: S-3719; KM-579.2.
