Stack's Bowers 2025 NYINC sale, lot 37410

This specimen was lot 37410 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $65. The catalog description[1] noted, "SCOTLAND. Groat (8 Pence), ND (1583-90). Edinburgh Mint. James VI. PCGS Genuine--Environmental Damage, EF Details. From the Richard August Collection." In England, a groat was fourpence; in Scotland eight pence. The first groats were struck by David II in the fourteenth century.
