from the Stack's Bowers 2020 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73552

This specimen was lot 73552 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $105. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. 1/2 Skilling, 1799. Avesta Mint. Gustav IV Adolf. NGC MS-64 Brown. RARELY encountered so attractive, this delightful near Gem offers deep brown surfaces and a rather solid strike for issue." Prior to the reform of 1830, 48 skilling = one riksdaler. This type has a low catalog value.

Recorded mintage: 763,000.
