Stack's Bowers 2025 NYINC sale, lot 34139

This specimen was lot 34139 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $1,200. The catalog description^[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. 2 Francs, 1806-BB. Strasbourg Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, Fine Details. A VERY RARE offering from this first year of issue, the present example admittedly has seen a fair amount of circulation and wear, as well as the noted cleaning, but nevertheless will fill the hole that undeniably exists in many of even the most advanced collections. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired CGF in 1998 for $883). Ex: CGF IV (6/1998) Lot # 1378." This type was struck 1806-07 with seventeen different date-mintmark combinations, of which the 1806-A is the only one at all common. It was demonetized in 1869. This date is rare.

Recorded mintage: 1,471^[2].

Specification: 10 g, 0.900 fine silver, 27 mm diameter, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE. Designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier, 1763-1819.
