Jean Elsen sale 115, lot 1469

This specimen was lot 1469 in Jean Elsen sale 115 (Brussels, December 2012) where it sold for €220 (about US$336 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"BELGIQUE, Royaume des Pays-Bas, Guillaume Ier (1815-1830), AR 1/2 gulden, 1829 B, Bruxelles. Rare. Très Beau. (kingdom of Belgium, William I (1815-30), silver half gulden of 1829, Brussels mint. Rare, very fine.)"

This type was struck in Utrecht 1818-22 and Brussels 1829-30. All dates are rare. After Belgium obtained her independence in 1830, the mint continued striking for the new country until its closure in 2018.

Recorded mintage: 180,336.

Specification: 5.383 g, .893 fine silver, .154 troy oz ASW, 24 mm diameter.
