Jean Elsen sale 149, lot 728

This specimen was lot 728 in Jean Elsen sale 149 (Brussels, December 2021), where it sold for €3,600 (about US$4,876 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRABANT, Duché, Philippe de Saint-Pol, duc (1427-1430), duc de Brabant et de Limbourg, AV écu d'or (klinkaert), 1429-1431, Louvain. D/ Le duc trônant de f. dans une stalle gothique, ten. une épée et l'écu écartelé de Brabant-Bourgogne. R/ Croix fleuronnée dans un quadrilobe cantonné de roses. Très rare Fines griffes. Très Beau. (duchy of Brabant, Philippe of St.-Pol, 1427-30, gold écu, Louvain mint. Obverse: the duke enthroned under a Gothic canopy, bearing a sword and the arms of Brabant and Burgundy; reverse: floriate cross in a quadrilobe cantonned with roses. Very rare, fine scratches, Very Fine.)"
