Greece 1996 20000 drachmes
This specimen was part of lot 6658 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), which sold for $646.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREECE. Three Piece Proof Set, 1996. NGC PROOF-67 to 69 ULTRA CAMEO. Commemorative issues struck for the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. Consists of two silver 1,000 Drachmes and a gold 20,000 Drachmes with classical representations of Olympic athletes. The gold piece graded the highest of the three with flashing fields free of any signs of contact, handling or haze. The two silver pieces graded 68 and 67 respectively with some mild fog forming in the periphery." This gold NCLT was sold in sets with two thousand drachmes issues (KM 165 and KM 166). With the numismatic market already saturated with Olympic themed coins, these trade for their bullion value.
