Greece 2000 100 drachmes

Stack's Bowers February 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73569

This specimen was lot 73569 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GREECE. 100 Drachmai, 2000. NGC MS-64. A handsome near-Gem, this piece provides wonderful brassy color and charming details." This type was struck 1990, 1992-94, 1998 and 2000. not all the dates were struck for circulation but those that were, including the 2000, are very common. The euro was introduced into Greece in 2002, rendering this coin obsolete.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 10 g, aluminum bronze, 29.5 mm diameter, segmented reeded edge.
