Künker sale 352, lot 1281

This specimen was lot 1281 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,200 (about US$1,670 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALIEN, NEAPEL UND SIZILIEN, Ferdinand II. 1830-1859. 6 Ducati 1842, Neapel. Feingold. GOLD. Fast vorzüglich. (Italy, kingdom of Naples and Sicily, Ferdinand II, 1830-59, six ducati of 1842, Naples mint. about extremely fine.)"

This type was issued 1842, 1845-56 for Ferdinand II. These gold coins were issued intermittently until 1856 and all are scarce. The Kingdom of the Two Sicilies was annexed to Italy in 1860 but remains poor, backward and corrupt.
