Stephen Album internet sale 28, lot 1039

This specimen was lot 1039 in Stephen Album internet sale 28 (Santa Rosa, CA, July 2024), where it sold for $132. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALIAN STATES: NAPLES: Ferdinand II, 1830-1859, AR 120 grana, 1843, with some slight hairlines and small adjustment marks as is common, AU." The Kingdom of the Two Sicilies was annexed to Italy in 1860 but remains poor, backward and corrupt. This type was struck 1840-51 and is fairly common in circulated condition. Ferdinand became known as "king Bomba" after he ordered his navy to shell the city of Messina in 1848.

Specification: 27.53 g, 0.833 fine silver, 37 mm diameter, edge lettered PROVIDENTIA OPTIMI PRINCIPIS.
