Sincona sale 84, lot 54

This specimen was lot 54 in Sincona sale 84 (Zurich, October 2023), where it sold for 19,000 CHF (about US$25,586 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"RUSSIA Russian Empire and Federation, Rouble 1744, Red Mint, MMD. Very rare in this condition. 2.75 roubles according to Petrov. NGC MS64. Finest certified by both NGC and PCGS. From the auction 'Renaissance Sale', Philadelphia, August 2000, lot 264"

This type was struck at Moscow and St. Petersburg 1742-51. This is the first ruble where both mints used mintmarks; mintmaster's initials were added later.

Recorded mintage: 373,000.

Specification: 25.85 g, 0.802 fine silver.
