Sincona sale 78, lot 64

This specimen was lot 64 in Sincona sale 78 (Zurich, October 2022), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$300 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA | Russian Empire and Federation | Peter I. 1682-1725, Polushka 1718, Kadashevsky Mint. 1 roubles according to Petrov. About extremely fine." This polushka, or quarter kopek, was struck 1718-22. The mintages are unknown but must have been substantial as the type is not rare today. Another polushka, struck 1718-20 with initials ΗД (KM 152.1), lacks a shield on the eagle's breast.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.02 g, copper, this specimen is 1.12 g.

Catalog reference: KM 152.2, Diakov 3922 (R1). Bitkin 3642 var.
