Sincona sale 84, lot 428

This specimen was lot 428 in Sincona sale 84 (Zurich, October 2023), where it sold for 100 CHF (about US$135 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSIA Russian Empire and Federation, 5 Kopecks 1861, St. Petersburg Mint, SPB FB. About uncirculated. Attractively toned."

This type was struck 1860-66. Mintmasters МИ and ФБ are reported for 1861. In 1867, the weight was reduced to 0.90 g, 0.500 fine silver and struck in that form until the collapse of the regime.

Recorded mintage: 360,000 (mintmasters МИ + ФБ).

Specification: 1.03 g, 0.750 fine silver, this specimen 1.01 g.
