Iran AH 1298 5 toman Fr-53
This specimen was lot 1910 in Sincona sale 94 (Zurich, October 2024), where it sold for 13,000 CHF (about US$18,018 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"IRAN Naser al-Din Shah, 1264-1313 AH (1848-1896). 5 Tomans 1298 AH (1880), Tehran Mint. Lion & Sun type. KM - (cf. 947). Kian coll. -. Von grösster Seltenheit. Vorzüglich-FDC. (Iran, Naser al-Din Shah, 1848-96, five tomans of AH 1298, Tehran mint, lion and sun type. Of the highest rarity, Extremely Fine-Uncirculated.)"
Friedberg says this is a medal for valor, not a coin, and mentions issue dates AH 1300, 1308 and 1311. KM 947, referenced by the auctioneers, is a ten toman dated AH 1311.
