Sincona sale 85, lot 1104

This specimen was lot 1104 in Sincona sale 85 (Zürich, October 2023), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Muzaffar al-Din Shah, 1313-1324 AH (1896-1907). 5 Tomans 1314 AH (1896/1897 AD), Tehran Mint. Bust type. Of the highest rarity, only two known specimens. Extremely fine-uncirculated. Altered surface. From the Kian collection, auction SINCONA 49, October 2018, lot 138. From the Leeds collection, auction Baldwin's, Dubai, March 2000, lot 575. This regular issue of the bust type 5 Tomans is one of only two known specimens, and the superior example."

No five tomans are listed in the SCWC for Nasir al-Din or Muzaffar al-Din Shah. This specimen was offered again as lot 101 in Sincona sale 92 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 22,000 CHF (about US$30,492 including buyer's fees).
